Ost is comprised of a repetition of a single sequence, shot from a train leaving Berlin's Ostbahnhof station, whose duration varies each time it is replayed. We see what looks like an agglomeration of white tents with crowds of people around them. The hypnotic effect of this repetitive image sequence, with the accompanying rhythm of the train' wheels screeching, is intended to induce a state of reverie in the viewer, a state not dissimilar to that of the tired commuter passing an all too familiar cityscape.
